I Am Number Four (Lorien Legacies) - Pittacus Lore I was going to give this book one star all the way though reading it, but when it came to the ending it improved a hell of a lot. Throughout the middle though, the book was just boring, and the entire romance plot line was completely useless and pointless.

Sarah is the definition of Mary Sue. Her mood swings and personality changes were ridiculous. She went from being super-popular high school girl who puts her ex-boyfriend in line when he acts like a twat, to constantly crying and professing her love for her alien boyfriend who needs to rescue her every five minutes from idiotic situations. To say I didn't like her would be an understatement.

I didn't like Henri, he was condescending and never explained anything to John, and then was shocked when John decided to rebel against him. His cryptic statements pissed me off no end. And I still don't understand why he didn't want John/Four to know about the dog. When Six showed up and knew so much and kicked arse even though she'd been alone since she was 13, I started thinking maybe John would've been better off if Henri died too. When he did die, I felt guilty for thinking that, but I soon got over it.

Bernie Kosar was the best character ever. When he got hurt, I nearly cried. When John realised who he was though, the gecko, the teddy bear on the ship, his best friend since childhood, it was awesome. Definitely my favourite character in this book.

I don't get Sam. He wasn't a terrible character, but he was basically just a stereotype. Why did he decide to go with the aliens at the end? No reasons were given. He wasn't that much of an important character either, I don't understand why they allowed him to go with them. On a similar note, I kept forgetting Mark all the way through the book. Whenever his name was mentioned I was honestly like 'who?' I liked him after the ending though, and I hope he and Sarah go out again, because there's no point in Sarah pining after John when he can't be with her anyway because he's an alien that needs to repopulate his planet so his race won't die out. Off topic there, never mind.

Six. Let me paraphrase a long speech Six gives about why she was trying to find John or any of the others. "I don't care that I'm endangering our entire species by finding you, I feel like fighting some bad guys!" She's a dick. Enough said. Also, Six's Legacies are so much better than Four's that it's just ridiculous. She can turn invisible and control all four elements. He can turn his hands into flashlights and talk to animals. Wonderful.

To sum this up, this book went from vaguely interesting while explaining all the alien stuff, to boring and shit whilst all the falling in love and typical high school stuff happened, to being awesome during the ending. However good the ending was though, it didn't make up for having to sit through hundreds of pages of dull romance that was pointless in the end anyway.
